- Xiaomi Mi Fan 2 vs Smartmi Standing Fan 2
Due to the very similar name, Xiaomi Mi Standing Fan 2 and the Smartmi Standing Fan 2 are very easily confused. But you can easily identify the different models. In the online shop you should pay attention to the exact product description. The Smartmi Standing Fan 2 has the model number ZLBPLDS04ZM, the Xiaomi Mi Smart Standing Fan 2 has the model number BPLDS02DM.
In addition, the logo on the fan is different: once Smartmi and once the MiHome logo. The Smartmi also has a silver fan rod and the Xiaomi Mi Fan 2 has a white fan rod that consists of two parts.
Packaging & scope of delivery
If you are unsure after your purchase whether it is the Smartmi Standing Fan 2 or the Xiaomi Mi Smart Standing Fan 2, you can easily tell from the model. Finally, the Smartmi Standing Fan 2 comes in a brown box with Smartmi branding, the Xiaomi fan comes in a white Xiaomi box, including the Mi logo. The box is significantly smaller and handier than the Smartmi model.
That’s because the fan pole is in two parts, just like the Mi Fan 1C. Otherwise, the scope of delivery also includes the base, the protective basket with fastening nut, the rotor blade, the detachable cable, a screw, an Allen key and the operating instructions. Everything is securely packed so that no damage should occur during transport.
Mi Smart Standing Fan 2: white instead of silver
The fact that the Xiaomi Mi Smart Standing Fan can easily be confused with the Smartmi Standing Fan 2 is mainly due to the design. Because let’s be honest, they both look almost identical. At 102 cm, it is slightly larger than the Smartmi, but this is not noticeable from a distance.
However, there are three important features by which you can distinguish the models that we have already defined in the overview: logo, rod and rotor blade. The Xiaomi Fan 2 has the Mi logo in the middle, a white (two-part) bar and a 5+7 blade, the Smartmi model has the “Smartmi” logo, a silver bar and a 7-blade.
Apart from that, we also get the timeless pedestal fan design with Xiaomi with a two-part rod that connects the round base with the motor and rotor. The look should fit in well with any furnishing style, after all it is chic and timeless, but also unobtrusive. I even like the all-white design a little better than the silver bar on my Smartmi Standing Fan 2, but that’s a matter of taste.
As with the Smartmi, the cable can also be removed here and sits on the base of the fan. In contrast to the Mi Fan 2 Lite, you get the desired distance between the socket and the device. An additional difference is the aforementioned fan rod, which not only has a different color, but is also in two parts on Xiaomi . Equipped with a click mechanism, the middle part can be removed, just like with the Mi Fan 1C. This shrinks the pedestal fan to 65 cm. In addition, the fan can also be tilted, but only by about 30°.
How is the Xiaomi Mi Smart Fan 2 processed?
However, the two-part fan rod also has a disadvantage. According to some comments under the Smartmi test, the Xiaomi Fan 2 wobbles a little more, which I can also confirm in the test. But this is only noticeable if you actively bump into it, but not with the function itself. But still: Thanks to the screw in the rod, the Smartmi has a better footing !
Otherwise, you could of course also be annoyed about plastic, but I think the Xiaomi fan is well made overall. The click mechanism of the two rods works well, the buttons have a pleasant pressure point and all the fins of the protective basket are intact.
Operating the Xiaomi Mi Smart Standing Fan 2
You can control the Xiaomi Mi Fan 2 pedestal fan either via app or directly on the fan. For this, the manufacturer installs controls on the top of the motor, which are more extensive than with Smartmi. The Standing Fan 2 works with just one button and a total of 5 LEDs, Xiaomi has four buttons and six LEDs. It is similar to the Mi Fan 1C or Mi Fan 2 Lite.
There is a power button, a button for the oscillation (pan), the timer button and the switch between normal and natural mode. The first level corresponds to fan speed 1 in the app, the second corresponds to 35, the third 70 and the fourth level corresponds to 100. The levels are also displayed with the timer button on the status LEDs, one level corresponds to one hour. Unfortunately, the oscillation cannot be adjusted, only activated or deactivated.
Operation via app
Xiaomi Mi Smart Standing Fan 2 – Since it is a smart home gadget from Xiaomi, integration into the Mi Home or Xiaomi Home is mandatory. Since it is a global product, the Germany server is recommended, I could not integrate it right away via the China server. If you have different experiences in this regard, please write it in the comments. App integration is done via the plus at the top of the screen and the rest is self-explanatory.
Then you have a few options to operate the fan. You can choose between normal mode and nature mode. What is nice for the eye is that the interface changes and the buttons are green, in the normal mode they are blue. The fan speed can be regulated with a slider, the oscillation can be adjusted in steps of 30 up to 120 and then additionally up to 140° and the timer can also be defined with a slider.
You can also disable the LED display and the notification sounds, which we would recommend, because they are annoying. The child safety lock can also be activated here so that the fan can only be operated via the app and no longer with the buttons.
In addition, the name can be changed via the menu, fixed switch-on and switch-off times can be defined and automations can be carried out. Firmware updates are also available from this menu. I personally think the app experience is really good. The app is clearly laid out, operation is almost immediate and there are enough setting options for a fan. However, you get the identical experience with the Smartmi Standing Fan 2 as well.
Volume & Power Consumption
As already described in the Xiaomi fan overview, with the exception of the Mi Fan 1C/Mi Fan 2 Lite, all fans work with a DC motor. Due to the DC motor, the operation of the Mi Fan 2, as well as the other models, is generally quieter and more energy-efficient than models with an AC motor.
Interestingly, the power consumption of the Mi Smart Fan 2 is even lower at 15W than the Smartmi at 20W. However, I don’t notice any difference in the general strength, the airflow can still be felt from several meters.
The big advantage in practice, however, is the issue of volume. Since you also want to use the fan at night, it should not keep you from sleeping. At level 1 the fan is practically inaudible, at level 2 you can hear the wind flow, but it’s easy to ignore. The volume is almost 40 dB directly on the fan, at a distance it is still 37 dB. From about 50 the noise is noticeable, but you can certainly get used to it.
Everything above the setting of 75 dB is then louder than a “pleasant background noise” , at least at an otherwise quiet room volume. If you watch TV or listen to music, the fan takes a back seat.
Conclusion: Buy Xiaomi Mi Smart Standing Fan 2
On paper, the Xiaomi Mi Smart Standing Fan 2 is actually a better pedestal fan than the Smartmi Standing Fan 2. It uses a little less power and the pole is height-adjustable, a nice feature. Apart from that, the differences between the two models are absolutely negligible, unless you like the respective color of the pole much better. Both are very good, smart pedestal fans with app control, DC motor, whisper volume, smart functions and a pleasant wind.
However, both models do without a battery. For this you have to use the Smartmi Standing Fan 2S or the Mi Fan Pro. The Mi Smart Standing Fan 2 nestles between the Mi Fan 2 Lite and the Mi Fan Pro. The Mi Fan 2 Lite aka. We only recommend Mi Fan 1C if your budget doesn’t allow more, the AC motor is significantly louder and you only have three speed levels.
Compared to the Mi Fan Pro, the most important difference is the battery including the charging station. The surcharge is only worth it if you need a battery in your living situation.
Accordingly, you can make the decision completely dependent on the offer. Just take the cheaper one. I don’t want to be without my Smartmi Standing Fan 2 anymore and I can live without a battery. If you want to see which smart fans from the Xiaomi universe still exist, it’s worth taking a look at the Xiaomi fan overview. which one do you have.
