Advantages: Reviews
- @ Winter Park Resort Parsenn Road Winter Park Co: Another great way to get to Winter Park is to take the Amtrak California Zephyr. Although he doesn’t stop at the resort, he does make a stop at Fraser, just a few miles down the mountain. There is plenty of accommodation in Fraser, from AirBnB to hotels, and there is a free shuttle that runs around the town and up to the mountain. Zephyr leaves Denver Union Station at 8:05 a.m. and arrives in Fraser at 10:07 a.m. I did this with my family a few years ago and it worked flawlessly.
- Winter Park Resort Parsenn Road Winter Park Co: Winter Park is my favorite resort as someone who skis mostly in green areas and goes on trips with many friends who are beginners because it’s pretty much the only park where you can visit most of the mountain with some kind of green space. When my newbie friends ask about going to other luxury resorts in Colorado, I usually decline because as a newbie, you won’t be able to see the postcard views and you’ll be limited to a small cluster of visually diverse foliage.
Disadvantages: Reviews
- Winter Park Resort Parsenn Road Winter Park Co – @jamievolk5248: Last year I only went on weekends. The lines were long but not as bad as the lines in some east coast mountains. Additionally, high-speed six-packs move lines quickly, so I was never standing for more than 15-20 minutes. If you’re a skilled skier or snowboarder, you can get the goods and there’s no need to queue if you know where to go.
- @Kenoticrunner: According to reviews, the biggest drawback is the crowd flow. What you do here is continue on weekdays. If you can’t do this, it’s up to the experience at the facility. Crowd traffic varies greatly depending on the time of day, elevator availability, snow and weather conditions. Once you learn the patterns, you can avoid most, if not all, wait times. The quick way to learn these patterns is to use the singles line and ask the locals on the mountain. Even on busy weekends, you can skip most of the queues by knowing where to ski in the resort. The second disadvantage you have is navigation. First-time visitors and especially boarders easily get stuck on this mountain. However, except for days with deep powder, you can navigate the entire mountain quickly and easily once you learn how. Experience is again rewarded. Winter Park Resort Parsenn Road Winter Park Co. The way to learn this quickly is to ski with mountain locals who know when and where to keep pace. This means that this mountain rewards loyalty. As a vacationer or first-timer, it makes sense that the resort “only” ranks among Colorado’s best. However, if you get a pass and ski on this mountain a few times, its disadvantages will disappear. It has a cult following among Grand County residents, especially Front Ranger families who love athletic skiing on the bumps, and vacationers who have developed a loyalty to learning about this mountain, Winter Park, and Mary Jane.
- @aubreywhitley6889: Snowfall is limited on the Winter Park (WP) side. Early season (November, early December) fields are generally limited to a few green runs and one or two blues. It’s not snowing on Mary Jane (MJ)’s side. There is a lot of flat land on the WP side. If you see a blue road turning green on the map, make sure you go very fast towards it. Otherwise, you’ll be skating, pole picking, or walking. It’s almost like WP tried to be more vertical than was actually possible on these lifts. Most of the blues on the MJ side (Edelweiss, Bluebell, Columbine, Roundhouse) lean towards the easier side. There are very few well-groomed black runs. WP no longer provides paper maps. You need to use the maps on signs, some chairs or in the app. This looks like a trend many resorts will follow. I don’t see this as a “green” solution but more of a cost-cutting measure. Please have paper maps ready. Even if I have to pay for them. I’m going to laminate my old maps to bring with me. A paper map is much larger than my phone screen. As you mentioned, weekends can turn into a zoo! Especially on powder day. WP is closer to Denver than other major resorts. You don’t have the Eisenhower Johnson tunnel to deal with, but you do have a Berthound pass. Over the years the road has been greatly improved (2 lanes uphill, widened, more shoulders, more exits) but can be dangerous and scary downhill. There are numerous avalanche paths crossing the highway. Winter Park Resort Parsenn Road Winter Park Co. Winter Park can get more snow than other Front Range resorts. If there is a very strong storm, they can produce storms from the W, NW, N, and even the E (up slope).MJ can stay open until May or even June. The Panorama (Pano) cable car is often closed due to wind. Even if it doesn’t seem that windy. With no other way out, the Pioneer cable car is prone to interruptions. Especially when the winds blow from the west. Just yesterday the ski patrol had to tow people on snowmobiles. I was one of them. It is planned to be replaced for next season. Limited bowls above tree line. The panel is for servicing the elevator. I find navigation difficult. “Where do I go, how do I get there?” Even after over 30 years of occasional visits to CO. Parking is bad. At least it’s free parking. There are 3 parking spaces on the MJ side, but they fill up quickly and you park yourself on the road and walk. I’m less familiar with the WP side.
