Haylou PurFree BC01 Review, Specs & Price

  • Haylou PurFree BC01 bone conduction headphones
  • Scope Of Delivery

The Haylou PurFree BC01 come with a user manual, a charging cable and a pair of foam hearing protection à la earplugs. In case you’re wondering why this is included, well the hearing protection closes the ear canal and makes the bone conduction sound that much more immersive, but more on that later.

Design: perfect for sports

As is always the case with bone conduction headphones, these are neckband models that you hang over your ears. While the band is thin and delicate at the back, there are two thicker modules just behind the ears . It contains the battery, Bluetooth module and control buttons. Overall, the Haylou PurFree BC01 weighs only 28 g and is therefore light for a headphone of this type.

The bone conduction headphones are fully rubberized and certified by Haylou with IP67. The headphones are not only protected against water, but also against the ingress of dust. The headphones are therefore perfect for sports and even briefly immersing them in water does not damage them. In addition, it is very flexible and adapts well to the respective head shape.

Overall, the headphones make a pretty good impression. The rubber coating is clean, even and feels good to the touch. I can’t find any material or processing defects – very good!

Sound of the Haylou PurFree BC01

Haylou PurFree BC01 Review – There is also a thin layer of rubber in front of the drivers, with a metal plate behind it that transmits the sound waves to the head. What first struck me as very positive is that the music played is not inaudible, but is significantly quieter from the outside than is the case with other bone conduction headphones.

Once the headphones are in position, the sound in the test is of course not comparable to that of a wireless in-ear or semi-in-ear. That should be clear to everyone, you buy such bone conduction headphones to listen to music “in the background” but still be able to perceive your surroundings.

Even with glasses, the wearing comfort is good for me! / Haylou PurFree BC01 Review

The sound of the Haylou PurFree BC01 is surprisingly clear in the treble and upper midrange, and voices sound surprisingly good. So if you like listening to podcasts while exercising, you get a good option.

But not much comes through in the lower middle and bass range, does it? The included earplugs are more of a gimmick. Sure, the sound gets a little more immersive, but it just lacks depth and punch. The sound is anything but emotional, but rather has the charm of a small radio in mind.

Ultimately, on the one hand, you have to know what you are getting yourself into in terms of sound and that is exactly what you want. I understand the benefits of bone conduction headphones, but personally I prefer to stick with the ordinary in-ear. I guess I’m just not doing the right sport.

Service

There are a total of three control buttons, a multifunction button directly on the right speaker and two more on the battery behind the ear.

  • Functions of the buttons:

Thus, the operation of the Haylou PurFree BC01 is comprehensive and the gestures work reliably!

Bluetooth & Runtime

Haylou PurFree BC01 ReviewA Bluetooth 5.2 module from Qualcomm is installedNevertheless, there is no integrated high-resolution audio codec, which in my opinion would only have made limited sense. It is much more important that the Qualcomm chip offers stable connection stability for sports – it does, in the test the connection is stable over a distance of around 12 meters.

The built-in battery has a capacity of 165 mAh and, according to the manufacturer, should be enough for 8 hours of music listening. In the test at a mixed volume of 50%-70%, it was around 6.5 hours less than stated. Which may be due to the volume I sometimes chose to be higher. It is annoying that the headphones are charged with a magnetic 2-pin connector. If you break it, it should be much more difficult to get a replacement than if you had simply installed a USB-C port.

Conclusion: Bone conduction headphones are aimed at a top target group

Haylou PurFree BC01 Review / Of the few bone conduction headphones we’ve tested, my favorite is the Haylou PurFree BC01. It is light, has good grip thanks to its rubber surface, is flexible and still (not uncomfortably) presses against the head. Compared to other models that we were able to try, it is not quite as loud in the environment. What annoys me a bit is the magnetic 2-pin charging connector, which you won’t find a replacement for as easily as you would for an ordinary USB-C cable.

Pros

  • Weight & Flexibility
  • IP67 certified
  • Qualcomm bluetooth chip

Cons

  • charging port
  • Sound (compared to in-ear)

I like the sound in the vocal range, but overall they are bone conduction headphones and not in-ear. A comparison just wouldn’t be fair here. You don’t buy headphones like this because of the sound quality, but because they are practical for sports. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether it is worth the price of around €90.
