Roborock S7 Max Ultra Review:

Another Roborock S7?

You just have to say that the variety of products in the vacuum robot universe is becoming increasingly confusing. Roborock are certainly not the ones who started it or the main culprit here, but they certainly contribute.

The Roborock S7 Max Ultra is now intended to serve as a cheaper alternative to the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, while competing with the older S7 MaxV Ultra. In the practical test, however, it quickly became clear that the new S7 Max Ultra is a level above the S7 MaxV Ultra, apart from the missing camera.

Scope Of Delivery

The Roborock S7 Max Ultra is available in black and white. In the scope of delivery we find the basic components such as the vacuum robot and the station. The ramp of the station is single and has yet to be attached.

This is uncomplicated and takes just a few seconds. Otherwise, in addition to the already attached dust bag, two more dust bags are included in the scope of delivery.

Navigation

Roborock S7 Max Ultra Review: Of course, the laser tower, which sits on the top and ensures reliable navigation, is also included. In addition, there is the ReactiveTech object recognition, which should recognize objects in front of the vacuum robot and help the vacuum robot to avoid them. We tried out how this technology differs in terms of performance between ReactiveAI 2.0 ( S7 MaxV) .

We didn’t notice any noticeable differences in everyday use. Only in the endurance test in a narrow space and some test objects did the S7 Max perform better in navigation. The bottleneck was probably the biggest problem for the S7 MaxV and it was therefore not really able to move through it.

Both ignored and ran over the charging cable lying around, so we had to intervene manually. But even if the S7 Max did better in this situation, it is hardly noticeable in more normal situations. In our opinion, you don’t have to choose one or the other when it comes to object recognition.

Suck

Roborock S7 Max Ultra Review: The suction function is still based on the single rubber brush, which we also know from the other S7 models . So there was no upgrade to the new double system of the Roborock S8. For this, the suction power is increased from 5100 pa ( Roborock S7 MaxV ) to 5500 pa suction power. As a result, it achieves very good suction results on hard floors and carpets.

In our suction test on a carpet, it sucked up almost all dirt and collected it in the dust chamber. The T20 OMNI with its small dust chamber had its problems with the crowd in our test. No reason for all S7 MaxV owners to buy a new one, but the slightly increased suction power is a nice bonus for all new buyers.

Wipe

Also present is the VibraRise mopping pad on the underside of the vacuum robot. This cleans the floor through vibrations and is already known to us from some models.

Here you can get a good everyday cleaning. But it also removes stains that are not yet completely set from the floor in a second pass in thorough intensive mode. Anyone who lets the robot drive regularly, which is also easily possible thanks to the station, will find a thoroughly wiped living environment here. In direct comparison with stubborn dirt, rotating mops still have a slight advantage.

Also known is the raising of the mopping pad, which allows carpets to be cleaned while it is mopping.

The most important innovation compared to the old S7 Ultra models is the upgrade to an improved version of the RockDock Ultra including mop drying. If you had to buy an additional module with the predecessors, it is now integrated here. But you don’t get the plastic paneling that the S8 Pro Ultra has in front of the station. This keeps the view of the rather unsightly tanks.

Also available is the automatic cleaning and refilling with water by the station. There is also a suction station that empties the dust chamber into a dust bag. There is no bagless option.

Apartment

Roborock S7 Max Ultra Review: In addition, there is the Roborock or Xiaomi Home App where you have to register with your email address. Basically, both apps can be used, if you don’t have any other Xiaomi Home devices, I would recommend the Roborock app. Understandably, this is where the focus of the manufacturer lies. You then connect the robot to the app via Wi-Fi. It is important that your WiFi connection is 2.4 GHz, but many routers now combine the two networks. But if you’re having trouble, this is one of the first things to check.

At the beginning you have to create a map for the vacuum mop robot. There is the possibility to start a cleaning process directly or to create a quick map. With fast mapping, the S7 Max drives through your household and maps without cleaning. This is much faster and you can then make adjustments directly before the first cleaning. After mapping, it automatically creates a room layout. If something goes wrong or isn’t right, you can easily adjust it. It is also now possible to restrict the cleaning area using virtual walls and no-wipe zones/no-go zones.

The app control is quite tidy and summarizes settings sensibly. On the left you will find the zone selection, where you determine where the vacuum robot cleans. On the right there is a button that contains all the settings for cleaning intensity and cleaning method. In the middle are large buttons for start/pause and return to the station. In the settings menu at the top right you will find more options, for example where you can set schedules or adjust object detection.

Conclusion

Roborock S7 Max Ultra Review: When the Roborock S7 Max Ultra was announced, I briefly feared that we would get a hybrid of the S7 ProS7 MaxV and S8. In other words, a robot where you cannot clearly say where it stands in the Roborock portfolio. But that’s not the case, because it’s definitely on par or better than the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, apart from the missing camera. But there is a built-in drying module and it also has a little more suction power. So the Roborock S7 Max Ultra now seems to be the model for everyone to whom the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is too expensive and who are completely satisfied with the slightly improved S7 MaxV Ultra package.

Roborock S7 Max Ultra Review

This is also reflected in the price, because the RRP is €1199, but the price for the starter offer is already reduced to €999. It thus takes over the price range in which the S7 MaxV Ultra is now at the end of its term, almost on the fly. With the S7 MaxV Ultra, I could well imagine that this is now slowly being phased out. A further price reduction would still be possible, but actually the only plus point compared to the new S7 Max Ultra is the camera.

Pros

  • Very good cleaning
  • Good object recognition
  • Cleaning station with water refill & drying function
  • Reliable app

Cons

  • Camera is missing compared to the Roborock S7 MaxV
  • Complaining at a high level: No really new functions

Roborock S7 Max Ultra Review: Of course, there is still attractive competition outside of the Roborock universe. The ECOVACS Deebot T20 OMNI is in the same price range and delivers comparable results in all categories, but offers rotating mops, hot water mop washing and the improved edge cleaning. The Dreame L10s Ultra is also still on the market and scores with its very good price-performance ratio.

But if you want a Roborock model, you currently get the best price-performance ratio here , including cleaning, automation and navigation from the manufacturer. If the price is not an issue, the top model is still the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra. Roborock S7 Max Ultra Review video below.

Roborock S7 Max Ultra vs Pro Ultra

The Roborock S7 Max Ultra is positioned higher than the Roborock S7 Pro Ultra in the Roborock portfolio. It offers an additional drying function, more suction power and object recognition.

Roborock S7 Max Ultra vs S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S7 Max Ultra is located directly below the S8 Pro Ultra in the Roborock product portfolio. The S8 Pro Ultra has a better mopping function, object detection, more suction power and additional functions. So the S8 Pro Ultra can raise its suction shaft and has a disguised cleaning station.

Roborock S7 Max Ultra vs MaxV Ultra

The Roborock S7 Max Ultra is a further development of the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra. It now offers a drying function and has more suction power. There is no camera, but the object recognition of the S7 Max Ultra is even slightly better.

Roborock S7 Max Ultra price

Roborock specifies €1199 as a recommended retail price for the S7 Max Ultra. Right at the start there was already a discount campaign where the robot was available for €999.

Roborock S7 Max Ultra Camera

If a camera was installed in the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, it is missing in the Roborock S7 Max Ultra.
